India's men's skeet team wins Asian Games

India won a bronze medal in the men's skeet team shooting event at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan on Wednesday, September 23. The trio of Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Mairaj Ahmad Khan and Bhavtegh Singh Gill secured the podium finish after a shoot-off against Kazakhstan.

The Indian team finished the three-day qualification round with a combined score of 346 points. This tied them with Kazakhstan for third place, forcing a shoot-off which India won to claim the bronze. Qatar won the gold medal with a score of 353 points, while Kuwait took silver with 348.

Individual performances

Anantjeet Singh Naruka was India's top performer, shooting 119 out of 125. His score also qualified him for the men's skeet individual final later the same day, where he finished joint-fourth. Mairaj Ahmad Khan, described as one of the team's more experienced players, scored 116. Bhavtegh Singh Gill contributed 111 points to the team total. Mairaj and Bhavtegh did not qualify for the individual final.

This marks the second consecutive Asian Games bronze in this event for Anantjeet Naruka. He was also part of the Indian men's skeet team that won bronze at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.

Women's team also medals

India celebrated a second skeet shooting bronze on the same day. The women's team of Raiza Dhillon, Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Maheshwari Chauhan also finished third with a combined score of 331 points.

Raiza Dhillon and Parinaaz Dhaliwal both shot 111, while Maheshwari Chauhan added 109.

India's shooting medal tally

The two bronzes brought India's total shooting medal count at the Asian Games 2026 to seven. The haul consists of four silver and three bronze medals. This performance is notably behind India's shooting results from the Hangzhou 2022 Games, where the team won 22 medals: seven gold, nine silver, and six bronze, which remains their best-ever shooting tally at a single Asian Games.

Not all Indian shooters found success on Wednesday. Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker finished fifth in the women's 10m air pistol individual final with a score of 181.1. In the 10m air pistol team event, the Indian women placed fourth with an aggregate of 1719-44x, narrowly missing bronze to Vietnam who scored 1719-46x on the same points total.

India's shooters had already secured medals earlier in the Games. Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod won silver in the women's 10m air rifle team event, with Elavenil adding an individual silver in the same discipline. A day later, Himanshu Dhillon and Rundrakksh Patil won silver in the men's 10m air rifle team event, followed by Himanshu taking an individual silver and Rundrakksh an individual bronze.
