Ito, Hayashi headline AFC player transfers
Japan's Atsuki Ito joins Bolton from Gent on a three-year deal. Momo Hayashi signs for Melbourne City, per the Asian Football Confederation.
Bolton Wanderers have signed Japan international Atsuki Ito from Belgian side KAA Gent. The 28-year-old midfielder agreed to a three-year deal, as confirmed by the Asian Football Confederation.
Compatriot Momo Hayashi has joined Melbourne City after two seasons with Brisbane Roar. Other moves include Philippines international Katrina Guillou, Javi Hernandez, and Tyrese Francois.
Atsuki Ito's English Challenge
Ito ends a two-season stay with Gent, where he made 79 appearances in all competitions. He originally joined the Belgian club from Urawa Red Diamonds in 2024. Now he will test himself in England with Championship newcomers Bolton.
"It's going to be a big challenge," said Ito. He noted the league's physical, tough matches. "But I believe I can show my strengths in that environment."
The midfielder expressed his desire to contribute to the team's challenge. He also highlighted the significance of being the next Japanese player to follow legends at the club. "I think if I do well here, people in Japan who don't know the club will get to know it," he added.
Momo Hayashi's City Move
Melbourne City strengthened their squad for the AFC Women’s Champions League 2026/27 campaign with the signing of Japanese midfielder Momo Hayashi. The 31-year-old arrives on a one-year deal from Brisbane Roar.
Hayashi scored 10 goals in 38 appearances across two seasons in the A-League Women. City, the reigning Australian Premiers and Champions, will feature in the AFC Women’s Champions League for a third consecutive season. Fans can check the club's upcoming fixtures for the new campaign.

Further Transfer Activity
Brisbane Roar moved quickly to bolster their squad with Philippines international Katrina Guillou. The 31-year-old midfielder joins from USL Super League side DC Power FC for the 2026/27 campaign. Guillou has made more than 40 international appearances and was part of the Philippines squad that made their FIFA Women’s World Cup debut in 2023.
Cerezo Osaka added Javi Hernandez to their defensive ranks. They secured the 28-year-old on loan from Spanish side CD Leganes until June 30, 2027. The former Real Madrid Castilla player has experience in Spain, Greece, and Qatar.
Australian midfielder Tyrese Francois has returned home after Brisbane Roar secured the 26-year-old on a multi-year contract. The former Fulham academy player joins from Wigan Athletic. He has also featured for Croatia’s HNK Gorica and Denmark’s Vejle Boldklub. Francois has represented Australia at U23 level.
Malaysia international Pavithran Gunalan completed a move to Terengganu FC. The 21-year-old signed a one-season contract with the Malaysia Super League side. He was previously with Johor Darul Ta’zim II. Pavithran enhanced his reputation with performances for Malaysia at the recent ASEAN Championship, scoring against the Philippines and contributing two assists as Malaysia advanced to the semi-finals. His new club's standings will be one to watch in the coming season.
